Looser? Maybe not

When I picked up this book, what I was hoping for, was someone to hold my hand and look me straight in the face and tell me, it’s ok to be imperfect. it’s ok to be a size bigger, it’s ok to have dark moods all if not most of the time, it’s ok to be unkempt …

You get the drift right…

The book in question : The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

Once again I stumbled into this author at such a late stage, my only regret: I never met her her when I was younger.

Brene Brown, starts the book, by sharing her very own personal journey, a personal fav! I like when writers do that, it makes me connect with them faster, and makes reading more enjoyable.

in her introduction to the book she says :

“we all struggle with shame and the fear of not being enough. And yes many of us are afraid to let our true selves be seen and known.”  and then she begun her journey to wholeheartedness. and in her journey she had questions, “Can anyone create a wholehearted life?” what does it take to cultivate what we need? and what gets in the way?

True questions that had me eating up the book even before it had begun. This is going to be a good ride! I could feel it!

as I continued, I came to the part that changed my life forever

“People may call what happens at midlife “a crisis” but it’s not. It’s an unravelling- a time when you feel a desperate pull to live the life you want to live, not the one you’re supposed to live. The unravelling is a time when you are challenged by the universe to let go of who you think you are supposed to be and to embrace who you are.”

“Midlife is certainly one of the great unravelling journeys. and then the clincher “The universe is not short on wake – up calls. we’re just quick to hit the snooze button”

BOOM! and after that, I was unable to sleep until I finished this great piece or morsel “the gifts of imperfection.”

she continues to share her journey and comes to this conclusion at the end of her journey

“I know see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do. I know see that cultivating a wholehearted life is not like trying to reach a destination. it’s like walking toward a star in the sky. We never really arrive, but we certainly know that we are heading in the right direction.

In her ten guideposts, Brown will engage your minds, hearts, and spirits as she explores how you can cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough, and to go to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am sometimes afraid, but I am also brave. And, yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am worthy of love and belonging

so remember ,

  1. I love that books can help us to look within ourselves while showing us who we have the potential to be regardless of how afraid we might be.
