But Paula Hawkins though! Allow me to narrate to you the order of events post reading book.
- I stood up and clapped really loudly shouting at the top of my lungs, “brilliant” and “well done,” giving my poor neighbors a scare!
- I wrote a fan mail to Paula Hawkins, telling her very many things. – hope she responds back.
- I went to the book store and bought all books Paula Hawkins!
If you haven’t caught on by now, what I am saying is “The Girl on the Train” is an absolute best seller and definitely A MUST READ.
About the book
Genre : Thriller
My Rating : Definitely a 5 star
Cast : 3 women 2 men and 1 culprit
#1 Rachael Watson, 32 years, is an alcoholic. we have heard of alcoholics however Rachael does take the cake on this one. she is the queen of alcoholics – yup it’s that bad. Reeling from her marital failure from her ex – husband Tom , who left her for another woman, hobo, unemployed and a black out problem which causes her to remember little or nothing at all while she is drunk, Rachel is the solid picture of rock bottom. She stalks her ex – husband’s new wife, and harasses her every chance she gets.
Rachael if you haven’t guessed it by now is the girl on the train, and the book is all about her. she takes the train everyday and while on it, watches an attractive couple who live a few hours away from her husband Tom and fantasizes about their perfect life together. little does she know about how connected they all are.
#2 Megan outwardly seems perfect to Rachel — beautiful, apparently happy, and married to a handsome, devoted man. However, Megan has a troubled past that she conceals from everyone who knows her and which gives her severe insomnia. She secretly finds her life boring and shallow, and escapes from her troubles by taking a series of lovers. She has sought help by seeing a therapist, Dr. Kamal Abdic, whom she would like to seduce. Eventually, she reveals to him a dark secret she has never confided to anyone before.
feeling the chills yet?
#3 Anna is young, beautiful, very much in love with Tom, and happy as a stay-at-home mother to the young Evie. While at first she enjoyed the idea of parading her conquest of Tom in front of Rachel, as a way to show that he picked her over Rachel, she eventually becomes furious at Rachel’s harassment of her and her family, and wants to move from Rachel’s former house and report Rachel’s stalking to the police. Anna views Rachel as a threat to her family and home, and particularly dreads Rachel’s presence because Rachel entered their home, picked up Evie, and walked outside with her one day.
of the 2 men we have …
#1 Tom : Rachael’s ex husband and Anna’s husband. – he sure is a piece of work no? and then again maybe not?
#2 Dr. Kamal Abdic, Megan’s therapist , who eventually becomes Racheal’s friend
Their story begins when Rachael’s perfect fantasy of Megan is shattered when she sees her kissing someone other than her husband, and thus begins her quest to make her fantasy right! To make Megan stop kissing another man! .The next day, after a night of heavy drinking, Rachel awakens to find herself bloody and injured, with no memories of the night before but certain that she has done something she will regret. Soon, she learns that one of the top stories of the day is that Megan is missing. Rachel is questioned by the police after Anna reports having seen her staggering around drunk in the area the night of Megan’s disappearance. Rachel starts to become interested in the missing persons case. She contacts the police to tell them she thinks Megan was having an affair, because she was watching her every morning and evening from the train, and then she contacts Megan’s husband, Scott. Rachel lies and tells Scott she and Megan were friends, and she tells him her thoughts about the affair. Rachel learns that the man she saw kissing Megan the day she disappeared was Kamal.
I know, quite the triangle huh!
And for the finale, Megan is killed. and out of the 3 women and 2 men, 1 of them is a culprit, and the pages turn and twist and capture your heart, and the killer? well the killer is definitely a shocker, and you my friend just need to read the book to find out who did it!
Well written book, I loved it, I was unable to sleep until I found out who really did kill Megan. I fell in love with Megan’s character too, she was complicated, dark and twisted and absolutely spontaneous. Of course Rachael comes in at a close second, in my list of likable characters, but Tom is my favorite of them all. and you just need to read the book to find out why. xo

This book is on my list!!! The movie trailer was responsible for that. I refuse to see the movie till I’ve read the book. I’m reading Ken Follett at the moment so will get to The Girl on the Train right after.

I haven’t read this book but I’ve heard good things about it, except from my husband who said I wouldn’t like it as it features domestic violence (something I’ve had to endure in the past) so I chose not to read it. After reading this though I am tempted to pick up my husband’s copy of the book – I want to find out who killed Megan!

Hey, sorry about the domestic violence bit! Hmmm it can dredge up memories well buried, so maybe not. However dear husband could actually just tell you who killed Megan, and let him promise to make it as dramatic as possible:-) Thanks for stopping by. xo
